-LEDs vs other light sources

-Lighting systems in the Smart City

-Green lights: renewable generation sources and storage systems in public lighting

systems. Implication in the power electronic and control stage.

-Central vs distributed storage systems in lighting

-New technologies (WBG applied to lighting, etc…).

Practical Sessions (4 hours in total):

Training course 2: Power Systems (4 hours, Dr. Cristina González Morán)

-Optimization of position of SVR taps in power distribution systems (2 hours)

Training course 3: On-Board Energy Storage and Another Technological Solutions for

Catenary Free Light Trains and Trams (4 hours, Dr. Pablo Arboleya Arboleya)

Nowadays, the use of energy storage combined with the regenerative braking systems

of the trains can be already considered a conventional solution in railway systems.

Such was the case that some manufacturers are using these kind of on-board

accumulation systems to avoid the use overhead line equipment and to reduce the

visual impact offering catenary free solutions. There exist other solutions for creating

catenary free systems, like the ones based in third rail technologies (standard,

controlled or inductive), but none of them are a good option for recovering the

regenerated braking energy. The sessions will cover technologies describing their main

features, drawbacks and benefits in terms of costs, operation, safety, reliability and



Day 4: Thursday 13th July, 2017

Training course 4 : Control of energy storage systems for distributed grid applications. (6-8

hours, Dr. Pablo García Fernández)

The course will be focused on the dynamic modeling and control design for different

grid applications considering an improved transient response. A methodology for the

dynamic model of power converters based on average model and non-linear modelbased

approach will be used. Details about the digital implementation will be included.


Day 5: Friday 14th July, 2017 (optional)

Visit laboratories and facilities of the Campus, meeting with staffs from different departments
